About Me

I first heard about EC when my daughter was born but it all sounded too complicated for me and as a first-time mom, I felt I already had enough to cope with for now. But I really liked the idea and kept reading, until a friend recommended to me Andrea's 'tiny potty training book'. I read it when my daughter was 9 months old and started her program right away. It was so easy to follow and hadn't I read the 'wrong' book (because her 'potty training' instructions are for baby 18 months and up) I would have had struggled less. I should have read her 'Elimination Communication' book; but still - at 16 months, I stopped thinking about the potty most of the time, which is Andrea's signal for completion. And I've enjoyed so much, not having to change diapers anymore and carry around a changing bag and I really loved the fact that I can actually respond to her elimination needs, same as I respond to her needs of eating or resting. This motivated me to whisper around her tricks and tips and in 2016 I did her go-diaper-free-coach program, which provided me with so many more great resources to help other parents have an easy, stress-free and quick potty training experience.

COACH Q&A

My experiences with Elimination Communication

When did you first learn about EC? What did you think? What did you do about it?

I started watching a couple of Youtube videos about EC during pregnancy with my first child and it really fascinated me. But I was always lacking the fundamentals and support on the way. Then I came across Andrea’s book when my daughter was 9 months and that’s where things really started to click for me. We started our EC journey at 12 months. For my second daughter, I plan to start from birth.

What does it mean for you to teach EC?

For me, teaching or coaching EC is really fun because I enjoy most to connect with other parents and exchange ideas and experiences. And it feels nice to help others on their EC journey. I wish I had someone to hold my hand or to whom I could turn to with my daily questions when I started with EC, to be honest!

What is your favorite piece of EC gear or clothing?

Sumo-ring.

What book has inspired you the most on the path to becoming a more empowered mother?

Jesper Juul, your competent child.

What would you tell someone who is thinking of trying EC for the first time?

Get good advice, make a plan, stick to it. And remember it’s ‚elimination COMMUNICATION‘ - and communication is always a 2-way-road and an ongoing process and it’s ALWAYS about your relationship! EC helped me to get to yet another deeper level of connection with my baby - and I’m 100% positive that this will happen to you, too. The fact that you don’t need diapers anymore soon, is just a nice side effect :)
